Punch Buggy

Punch Buggy / Slug Bug / Punch Dub This post is for a popular car spotting game where players are looking for just one type of car, specifically Volkswagen Type 1, the Volkswagen Beetle, also know as the VW Beetle or Bug. The game is known as Punch Buggy, Slug Bug or Punch Dub. Although Punch Dub is a newer version of the game for all VW models (we'll get to this later).  Punch Buggy is a variant on the Yellow Car or Spotto game (well maybe Spotto is a variant of Punch Buggy, no one can be sure which came first). Players are typically rear seat passengers in a travelling vehicle. Players call out Punch Buggy and the colour of the car, i.e. Punch Buggy Blue, then "punch" the nearest passenger.  We will stop here quickly. It is important to note that in no way does True Review support violence, aggression or assault. Also True Review take no responsibility for any accident or injury that may occur. This "punch" should be considered a love tap, a light bump on the...

Spotto - The Yellow Car spotting Game

 SPOTTO

SPOTTO Yellow Car

The great yellow car hunt. Who can spot the most yellow cars on a road trip, a drive through town or dropping the kids at school. It's a great way to keep the kids entertained while in the car. Although it can get a little heated between players at times and the constant screaming of "SPOTTO" can get slightly annoying. So, to help keep the peace, here is a quick guide to the rule book of playing Spotto.

Everyone seems to have their own little twist on how to play and there are a variety of similar games.

A Guide to the SPOTTO Game and Rules

While this a guide, the rules are yours. Adjust the rules to suit your family/friends.

Be quick and keep your eyes open and alert for any yellow vehicles. The game is pretty straight forward. No introduction necessary, if your in a moving/travelling vehicle, then Game On!

The first to spot a yellow car and shout Spotto gets one point.

Try to identify your spotted vehicle to other players. There can often be multiple Spotto's visible. Sometimes there needs to be a little trust, especially for spotted vehicles are in side streets or behind you, but don't push that trust too far.

Basic Rule

Description

Example

The vehicle needs to be yellow.

Not yellow. Gold, lime, mustard or dull orange is NOT YELLOW.

Yellow should be the main colour of the vehicle. At least 70%. I.e. Yellow car with black roof. Yellow car with black accents. Yellow car with racing stripes. Not a black car with yellow stripes. Not yellow accents.

Yellow Cars

Vehicle is not in “uniform”.

What's a uniform?

Police, Taxis, School Buses etc. are vehicles in uniform.

Could you imagine driving past fifty taxis or having a yellow vehicle around every corner. Ban these vehicles in your rules.

It may need some localised adjustments for common uniforms or companies. Alternatively, there may be limited yellow vehicles in the area so ignore the rule and include everything yellow.

Yellow Vehicles in Uniform. Yellow Police Car, Yellow Taxi, Yellow School Bus

Vehicle should be active.

The vehicle being spotted should be part of the general flow of traffic or active with a driver.

Parked or stationary vehicles with no driver don't count.

Town rules, City rules or road trip rules.

You may also like to have local rules and out of town rules.

If you are in a small town or rural area, maybe include all yellow vehicles, driver or not, parked or not. Just simply spot the yellow vehicle.

Then when travelling out of town, more strict rules apply as there are more yellow vehicles and more uniformed vehicles.

Spotted Vehicle

Once Spotto has been called for a vehicle, no one can then Spotto the same vehicle in that trip or during that same day.

Your on a road trip and Spotto is called for a vehicle on the highway and travelling next to you. That vehicle is now out. No, you can’t keep calling spotto every five minutes. No, you can’t call Spotto every time the vehicle goes out of view then back into view.

You are in a small town and travel to the shops and home three times in one day. No, you can’t call Spotto on the parked vehicle each time you drive past it.

Illegal Spotto

If you call the wrong Spotto or the vehicle isn’t right you lose a point.

You call Spotto and the vehicle is orange not yellow – lose a point.

You call Super Spotto for a yellow vehicle – lose a point.

Once players are used to the general rules for yellow Spotto, you can introduce variations and apply the same rules as above.

It's just for fun...

Spotto is not really about having the best score every day, week, month or year. Have some fun with it.

Leave a comment below. Let us know if you have any other rules that have been missed or colours you include in your Spotto game.

Do you keep score? Do you have prizes? Do you have special tasks for spotting a certain colour. Maybe you get a Freddo Frog if you spot a Froggo.
